RB5 rebuild two, part 2

I made it to Speed World last night, with enough time to finish rebuilding my RB5, and mounting up a new set of Schumacher yellow mini pins. The wheels and inserts I used were some that were salvaged a while back. I went with some firmer inserts this time.

I finished up with about an hour left to spare, giving me enough time to scrub my new tires before Friday's racing. It also gave me enough time to get used to the triple along the back wall. It's not quite perpendicular to the drivers stand, making it pretty tricky. The safest bet by far, is to land on top of the tabletop, instead of trying to make the entire triple. With that being said, there's just something extra fun about clearing the whole thing in one shot!

Here is a hastily made panoramic view of the entire track:

See you there!

Speed World trophy race Apr 30 2011

Here are all the A mains, and the 2WD B main from this past Saturday's charity trophy race at Speed World in Hamilton:

Turnout was pretty good with 10 heats all together, which was good because all the proceeds from the racing, as well as from the raffles, went to a diabetes charity. Thanks to everyone who was involved for making it another great race day!

Champion Will Be Crowned

Tonight is the final night in the mini-series at Speed World, in Hamilton. Here is the breakdown on who the contenders are, written by Derek Petre on LondonRC:
_________________________________________________________________
When the smoke clears tonight 5 men or boys will stand tall as the Winter/Spring opening series champion. I have confirmed with Aaron that we will be dropping your worst race and using 3 out of 4 races to calculate a winner. If you were on the fence about coming out tonight because you only had 2 races get your butts out there. At least give yourself a shot at taking home some early season Hardware.

4WD looks like it is going to come down to Steve Dziuban, Jay Christiano and Jason Lee. That is if Jay and Jason are able to show up to night and put down a solid run. Steve will be hard to beat, if he can overcome the mechanical gremlins that have effected him as of late he should be able to lock it down.

2wd looks like it is going to be a good race for the first loser, also known as second place. As the real deal smooth as silk Bill Jones as already locked up the title with 3 TQ and Wins earning him the maximum points available to this date. But 2nd place is anyone's guess at this point, Tim Sanderson currently has a grip on second place but anyone from 3rd through 8th can potentially knock him off tonight. Jason Lee and Todd Waite probably have the best shot of knocking Tim out of second as they have had two solid points nights thus far. If they are able to put down a solid 3rd round of points tonight they will be in good position to fill out the top 3.

2wd Short Course looks like a tight battle between Joe Ferguson and Mike Cole as they are currently tied at the top of the leader board. with 145 points a piece. However Steve Newstead has the best shot at taking home the title as he first two races have been very solid. With another top 5 tonight he has a very real chance of being the champion come nights end.

4wd drive Short Course is also going to be a very close race. Joe Ferguson currently has the top spot on the board but has the potential of Mitchell Warren tying him after tonight's race. The rest of the 4wd field also has their two races and if they are able to race tonight will make for an interesting race.

Micro is shaping up to be an close battle for fist spot between the current leader Giancarlo and second place Steve Dziuban. Dziuban has won the last two races tq'ing one of them and is in great position to lock down the second championship trophy of the early season. As well we can't rule out Jason Lee as he is one point back of Dziuban. We can possibly rule him out though has he just hatched a new baby girl this week and may have his hands full back in the family world.

Good luck all, Keep the painted side up!!!!

Speed World Trophy Race Mar 27 2011

This past Sunday was the ̶f̶i̶r̶s̶t̶ second trophy race at Speed World. There was an excellent turnout, with 10 or 11 heats of 2WD & 4WD buggy, 2WD & 4WD SCT, and Micro. It was a bit of a long day, but we got in three rounds of qualifiers before the mains so it's all good. Especially seeing as my 3rd qualifier was by far my best run of the day. My first 2 qualifiers were pretty terrible, and I kept accidentally hacking a few drivers in my heats. (Especially Bruce Morley and both Bowden's. too, I think. Sorry guys!)

The last 2WD qualifiers split the 16 drivers into 3 heats instead of having 2 heats of 8. That's probably why I did so well in my last qualifier. That day I seemed to be having more problems navigating through traffic than I usually do. With less traffic to contend with, I managed to squeeze in 3 extra laps for this qualifier. That tells me both how bad I did in quals 1 & 2, and how well I ran in qual 3.

I'm happy with my fastest lap, although I really would like to have made it into the 12 second club. As for average lap times, I am quite happy with my top 10 laps being around 2.5 tenths off of my fastest lap. My top 20 could have been better, at almost 8 tenths slower than my best. With that being said, my 22 5:10:715 was good enough to qualify my 4th overall. Not a bad place to be!

The qualifying order was:
1- Leonard Schinzano
2- Dave Lyons
3- Bill Jones
4- Tim Sanderson
5- Aaron Lee
6- Todd Waite

I managed to hold onto my position for what seemed like the first half of the a-main, but that's when she all went down hill for the tsan! I felt myself run out of steam, and quickly fell to the bottom of the line. I knew I stood little chance of keeping on pace with Len, Dave and Bill, but it seems at the moment Todd and Aaron are definitely the 2 biggest thorns in my side! I tend to be able to hold them off in the qualifiers, only to have them routinely beat me in the mains. Great racing guys!

Here are the A-mains from Sunday. Enjoy!

Speed World March 18 2011

This past Friday was the 2nd installment of the Speed World point series.
The results for all of Friday's races can be found here.
The new larger track (or Speed World 2.0 as some were calling it) is great! The track itself is quite a bit larger, not to mention there's at least as much pit space. (if not more) The track is quite a bit faster... despite being a larger track, lap times are only a few tenths longer than on the original layout. A good lap time is a mid-to-low 13 seconds.
Here was the 2wd A main. Thanks again to Calvin Mercer for recording the race for me as I raced.

Results for this race:
1) Bill Jones
2) Todd Waite
3) J.B. Catricala
4) Tim Sanderson
5) George Bousioutis
I'm definately looking forward to next Friday!
